FAQ

Things that you may be wondering about AOI.CYCLE.

AOI PHILOSOPHY

AOI.CYCLE was established in 2010 by Ken Aoi, an industrial designer, in Kaohsiung. The family owned factory, located here, has a history of 40 years and is specialized in mechanical design and metal processing. The factory has been engaged in the development of aerospace equipment with the renowned AIDC for a considerable period of time. From an early age, Ken became fascinated by design and machining, and enrolled in design college to practice more about industrial design.

To inherit the skills of high quality stainless steel welding technology, the business hope to transform the traditional OEM and ODM work from the family owned old metal factory into business that can be sustained in creating greater brand value.

So you have learn that our family owned factory has been working with stainless steel with experienced technology and skilled workers for developing aerospace equipment for decades. Therefore, we build high quality and high standard stainless steel bicycles with the same processing in our factory.

Stainless steel is a fantastically green raw material because it is 100 percent recyclable. In fact, more than half of all the stainless steel materials that are in use today have been sourced from scrap materials. What’s more, its production does not produce toxic run-off. Individuals and business entities can make a huge difference by simply going for stainless steel rather than other non-recyclable raw materials.

In AOI.CYCLE’s stainless steel frame production, after cutting and bending, we polish the frames carefully before welding to preserve its metallic luster. No extra surface coating or painting apply to the stainless steel frames, which may end up deteriorating and probably pollute the environment.

What makes stainless steel even greener is that it’s highly resistant to corrosion and rust, and comparably easy to maintain. So with the pure simplicity charms of stainless steel bicycle frame, it can be used beyond your expectation.
By elongating their lifespan, we can reduce our environmental impact. The longer you use the bicycle, the greener it is!

AOI Copenhagen use solid wood that can be detached from its stainless steel frame for maintenance. When solid wood is correctly maintained and exposed to daylight, over the years the wood will acquire a beautiful patina. As wood is a living natural product, color variations and knots as well as lines in the finished frame panel may occur.

Solid wood is a living material that is affected by daylight, temperature and humidity. So your wooden panel will shows differently depending on the circumstances you are riding.

When cleaning and maintaining your bike, carefully unscrewing the wooden panels before rinsing and cleaning the stainless steel frame. After taking down the wooden panels, it can be polished with 800-1000 grit sandpaper. Then applying wood oil with cloth and let it dry overnight. For the solid wood panels on AOI Copenhagen, we use OSMO Poly-Oil High Solid which is extremely durable, water, dirt, abrasion resistant; and children’s safe as well (EN71.3).
