AOI Kopenhagen entstand 2020 aus einem Kooperationsprojekt zwischen AOI.CYCLE und dem National Taiwan Crafts Research and Development Institute (NTCRI) mit dem Ziel, eine neue Form der Mobilität zu schaffen. Dies sollte durch die emotionale und warme Symbolik von Holz in Kombination mit einem zuverlässigen und langlebigen, aus Edelstahl gefertigten Material erreicht werden.
